Just a few days after the Alpes Grésivaudan Classic, the Tirol Women Cycling Team lined up for another major highlight of the season: the Tour Féminin des Pyrénées (UCI 2.Pro). Representing the team were Liv Wenzel, Linda Sanarini, Amalie Cooper, Franziska Ehrenreich, and Belinda Holzer. Over three demanding stages, our riders had the opportunity to compete against some of the world's best WorldTour and ProTeam squads.
Stage 1 – Saint-Jean-de-Luz
The opening stage covered 118 kilometres along the French Atlantic coast around Saint-Jean-de-Luz. On the predominantly flat course, the peloton stayed together until the finish, leading to a bunch sprint. Linda Sanarini delivered a strong performance to finish in an excellent 12th place.
Stage 2 – Col du Tourmalet
Stage two was the queen stage of the race, covering 95 kilometres with approximately 2,000 metres of climbing. The highlight of the day was the ascent of the legendary Col du Tourmalet, one of cycling's most iconic climbs. As in the previous races, the WorldTour teams controlled the pace from the very beginning. Our riders put in a determined performance throughout the stage, with Amalie Cooper finishing as the team's best rider in 28th place.
Stage 3 – Extreme Heat in the Final Stage
The final stage featured 114 kilometres and around 1,600 metres of elevation gain. Once again, the riders faced extremely demanding conditions, with intense heat making the race even more challenging. Despite the tough circumstances, Tabea, Amalie, Belinda, and Linda fought all the way to the finish, showing great determination and resilience.
Valuable Experience for the Rest of the Season
The long journey to the French Pyrenees proved to be well worth it. Racing against WorldTour and ProTeam riders provided invaluable experience and important lessons that will benefit the team throughout the remainder of the season.
Following these demanding race weeks, the team's focus now shifts to recovery and putting the finishing touches on their preparation ahead of the National Championships.
