At the prestigious Giro delle Marche in Rosa, the Tirol Women Cycling Team delivered a strong and united team performance throughout the weekend. Representing the team were Linda Sanarini, Liv Wenzel, Ramona Grießer, Amalie Cooper, Franziska Ehrenreich and Belinda Holzer.

First stage:

On Saturday, the race took place on a 6-kilometer circuit that had to be completed 15 times. From the very beginning, the Tirol Women Cycling Team was able to shape the race. Linda Sanarini especially showed her strength in the intermediate sprints, winning the sprint classifications in laps 2, 4 and 6. With these results, she took over the overall lead in the sprint classification and secured the Maglia Verde.

As the other teams struggled to work together and showed little collective strength, we took control of the race early on and dictated the pace for large parts of the event. Unfortunately, we were unable to contest the final bunch sprint for the stage victory. With temperatures around 27 degrees, sunshine and almost no wind, the riders enjoyed perfect racing conditions.

Second stage:

On Sunday, May 10th, a much more demanding stage awaited the peloton. The race began with 12 laps on the same 6-kilometer circuit as Saturday, followed by four hilly laps of 6.2 kilometers each, featuring a major climb. A final 3-kilometer finishing circuit completed the stage.

On the selective climbing laps, the Tirol Women Cycling Team was able to show its strength. Amalie Cooper, Liv Wenzel and Belinda Holzer set a very high pace on the first climb, causing the peloton to split apart completely. A leading group of around 15 riders eventually broke away, with our three riders represented in the move. The breakaway worked well together and stayed clear until the finish. In the sprint for victory, we narrowly missed out on the win: Liv Wenzel finished in third place, while Amalie Cooper secured fourth place.

Meanwhile, Franziska Ehrenreich stayed alongside Linda Sanarini on the final laps as a valuable domestique, helping her safely defend the lead in the sprint classification. The second stage was heavily affected by difficult weather conditions, as heavy rain started right from the beginning of the stage. Multiple crashes occurred throughout the race, but fortunately all of our riders stayed safe.

Results:

  • Sunday stage classification: Liv Wenzel – 3rd place, Amalie Cooper – 4th place

  • Sprint classification (Maglia Verde): Linda Sanarini

  • General classification (Maglia Rosa): Amalie Cooper – 4th place
