What a day. What a race. What a moment for the Tirol Women Cycling Team.
At the 64th International Cherry Blossom Race, we didn’t just celebrate another success – we secured our first-ever victory as a team. A milestone that reflects hard work, continuous development, and an exceptional team spirit.
From the very first kilometer, it was clear: this would not be an ordinary race. The demanding, hilly course over two laps challenged the entire field. But we were ready – tactically, physically, and mentally.
From the start, we took control of the race. Attack after attack was launched – but none went unanswered. Every move in the peloton was closely monitored, every acceleration immediately countered and neutralized. The team rode as one unit: focused, alert, and tactically disciplined. Other riders had virtually no chance to break away decisively.
Then came the decisive moment: the final sprint.
With a perfectly executed lead-out, we delivered Tabea Huys into the ideal position. Everything came together – timing, speed, trust. And Tabea finished off the team’s work with an outstanding sprint.
The high pace quickly took its toll. Already in the first lap, the field was significantly reduced. The selection was tough and relentless – exactly as we had planned. During this decisive phase, a leading group formed, with our team strongly represented and continuing to shape the race.
Our team tactics worked to perfection. We were present, active, and in control. We secured valuable points in both the sprint classification and the mountain classification, further reinforcing our grip on the race. For her relentless efforts, Tabea Huys was deservedly awarded most active rider of the day.
But we wanted more. We knew: this was our day.
In the final lap, the goal was clear – maintain our strong position and execute our plan. The cooperation within the lead group worked seamlessly, every rider knowing exactly what to do. Our team rode with precision, composure, and confidence – a true sign of strength and maturity.
Then came the decisive moment: the final sprint. With a perfectly executed lead-out, we delivered Tabea Huys into the ideal position. Everything came together – timing, speed, trust. And Bea finished off the team’s work with an outstanding sprint.
Victory for the Tirol Women Cycling Team. The first victory.
A moment to remember.
And there was more: Liv Wenzel completed the incredible team performance with a strong third place, making the result even more remarkable.
With this success, we were able not only to win the race but also to extend our lead in the Bundesliga standings – in the team classification, the elite classification, and the U23 individual ranking. In addition, we claimed the daily classification for the most active rider.
This race was more than just a sporting success. It was a statement. Proof of what is possible when a team works together, believes in itself, and has the courage to take control of the race.
Another strong signal came from the start list itself: for the first time, the women’s field in the Bundesliga was larger than the men’s field – an important milestone for women’s cycling.
This victory belongs to the entire team. Every single rider. The staff. Everyone who is part of this journey.
And one thing is certain: this is just the beginning.
At the startline for the Team was:
